AMAZING work to all the Grade 3 classes for an excellent and educational assembly this past Monday. It was fascinating seeing how each of the 6 classes demonstrated their learning on Global Citizenship for our Social Studies curriculum. Furthermore, after all the hard work the students did in Room 5, they were able to use what they have learned and put it into lyrics (a Rap song). They were engaged and had a great time making connections to a song. Again, I am so very proud of what they have achieved and we all look forward to seeing more creative ways to show our learning. Keep up the great work, Grade 3s! Please speak with your child and ask them about what they have done this past week in school. The WALT picture from before will help guide them in this sharing. The students have done a great deal of fun and exciting activities in all subjects and it’s wonderful to hear that they are sharing their learning with their families. Remember, next week from Monday, Feb. 3rd – Wed., Feb. 5th we will be having SKIING so wear your snow pants, jacket, and anything else that will help keep you warm during these three days outside. Thank you to our parent volunteers on these days and please be here at the school by 9:40am to sign in at the office and then join us for some fun. Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather =;)
Thank you to everyone for a great Glenbow Museum Field Trip on Monday. It was a great way to introduce the students to our current Science work on Rocks and Minerals. We were able to explore many new rocks and then organize them into groups by observing their properties (characteristics of the rocks/minerals). Similarly to our Walking Stories in LA where the students learned to describe a Noun, we are now learning what to look for when describing a rock (i.e. colour, weight, size, texture, luster, etc.).
Students – it would be a great time to share what we have been doing in other subjects by explaining our new WALT wall (describing Why we are doing something?, What we are doing?, and sometimes How we will be doing these?). It was amazing seeing how the students figured out that these signs will change as the year goes on and as we work on new and exciting subjects. Please see the pictures and share what we are doing in each of the subjects. You did a marvelous job on our signs and keep up the great work, Grade 3s! =;) Parents – the Grade 3s will be having a fun and exciting Skiing activity here at the school from Monday, February 3rd – Wednesday, February 5th (9:50 am – 10:40 am each day). Currently we have 1 Parent Volunteer for these 3 days and we are hoping to have 2 more parents join us on each of these days (2 more parents for all 3 days). If you are able to help, please let me know asap as we would enjoy having you with us. Thank you for your time and effort! **Continue working on your songs for our Grade 3 Assembly this Monday, Jan. 27th at 9:00 am** What a great week of getting ourselves back into our school routines and in facing the weather we just had. Thank you to all the families who have been sending their children to school with the proper clothing as the temperatures dropped drastically. Please continue to watch the weather and CBE websites for any information needed for school. Tomorrow, Monday, Jan. 20th we will be going to the Glenbow Museum. As discussed in class, please bring: Formal Uniform/proper clothing (we will be inside for the full day other than traveling from school to the museum), a non-heatable lunch and water bottle, and a small backpack to carry your lunch in. Thank you to our 5 Parent Volunteers - please be at the school to sign in by 8:00am at the latest. We will see you in our classroom before we head to the bus and assign our 5/6 groups, thank you in advance.
In class this week - we have created a fun and exciting way to demonstrate our learning. We are now using a section on our classroom wall for "WALT" - a way to show and state the reasons why we are learning something. As a class and then in groups, we have listed the subjects we are currently doing in all areas and then wrote a sentence explaining what, how, and why we are learning a certain subject. Please ask the students about this as this will be a great way to share their learning with their families. Keep up the great work and we will see on Monday for our Glenbow Museum Field Trip =;) Welcome back everyone! It was wonderful seeing all the students and hearing about their amazing and fun-filled winter break over our first week back! Thank you to all the students and families who read and worked on their Mathletics. It has made life much easier for the students this past week as many of us were ready to get back into the routine of school and in trying their very best. Thank you for working so hard, Grade 3s!
We enjoyed hearing about our vacations and in sharing these by using some of our past learning – making connections, using description while explaining our break, using the 5Ws and 5 Senses, and simply enjoying hearing about each other (much like we do in our Social Studies). With this said, we have worked very hard in creating a fun Rap for our upcoming Grade 3 Assembly on Global Citizenship. The students have broken into 2 groups and have created some very fun lyrics that relates to our Quality of Life learning from Social Studies. Please continue to work on the song at home and we will continue to practice at school as well. Have fun and EXCELLENT work, Grade 3s! During LA, we have continued to add detail to our writing as we will learn how to connect sentences/paragraphs by using our Transition Words. This will greatly help with our next story writing activities for our Event Stories (sequence, ordinal numbers, etc.). While reading in our Literacy Centers, groups have been working on more difficult stories hoping this will be more challenging for the students and so they are still successful in what they are doing. Many of the students have written some very impressive and imaginative stories this past week and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to them, thank you! In Math, we have reviewed a number of concepts and will continue to explore our past topics by relating them to others (i.e. Addition equations used to figure out Perimeter for shapes). In Science, we have begun our next unit on Rocks and Minerals. Students will be learning about the Earth’s different layers, the Rock Cycle, and the 3 categories of rocks. We have also enjoyed this past week’s PE classes as we learned about Yoga and its many benefits for all. Please remember to check the weather as the upcoming week looks very cold. Please make sure all students are properly dressed and prepared for the cold temperatures that will be coming next week. Also, on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 the students in Room 5 will be going to the Glenbow Museum for an all-day field trip with Mr. McVea’s class. Thank you to all the parents who have offered their time and we look forward to our learning with you =;) Have a great weekend and I am very proud of the work we did this first week back. Always try your best and enjoy your learning! See you on Monday =;) |
