This week our class was very busy working on some new and fun areas in LA and Math. We have continued working on our Event Stories (sequence) but this time we worked on an Expository Piece called, “Castles”. This was filled with sentence strips telling about the many exciting facts about castles. The students had to figure out the 3 different Main Ideas – Who lived in them, How they were constructed, and Why people lived in castles. Afterwards, we had a quick quiz on our reading comprehension which we will share with the parents during next months Student Led Conferences. I hope you are excited to see how great the students are doing. In Math, we are continuing to relate our Time (measurement) to word problems and to our every day lives. It has been great seeing the student relate their prior knowledge in other units to their learning with time – they are using some pictures to represent their learning as well as using their basic facts to help solve these problems. The students have also been introduced to some exciting new dice games – we will continue with these next week and I hope you’re excited to learn more educational games! Science has been very interesting as the students are figuring out how the Earth’s Layers are much like a piece of pizza (earth’s crust), the layers of an onion (earth’s layers), as well as a simple apple (earth’s core – outer and inner). Next week the students will create a drawing of these layers and create a fun plasticine ball that we will cut in half to show these layers. Keep up the great work, Grade 3s!
Please note: some of the students probably spoke with their parents about a very nice meeting Mrs. Hoye had with our class and in our student obligations. Please always keep up with your nightly reading, continue working on your Mathletics (as this is a gift from Parent Council), and be aware of what is being asked of our students and families on Weebly. This includes spending time on our Character Education books and projects with your families. If you ever have questions, please let me know before the Homework due dates, thank you =;)
Please note: We have an exciting Field Trip which will be next month on March 11th to the National Music Centre. We are asking for 4-5 Parent Volunteers to help out with this. Please let me know if this would be something you are interested in and we would love having you come with us to create some interesting instruments (based around our past Science unit on Hearing and Sound).
Have a wonderful weekend and always try your very best! You can do it!
